Eat With Your Eyes Perfect Burger.

Hey, the sun’s out!

It’s been a long time coming but Summer has finally arrived so here at Eat With Your Eyes we’re dusting off our BBQs. Our fav fix is the good’ol burger.

Rather than flippin’ a shop bought variety, why not create your own?

Our motto is ‘keep it simple’ and ‘quality is everything’. So… use good flavoursome meat, sirloin / chuck steak mix if you can stretch to it (get the butcher to add some fat also), aim for approx. 25% fat in the mix, yes, I know that’s a lot but the end result will be worth it! Chop or coarse mince the steak – the grind as our US friends would call it. Add salt and pepper. Mould into balls of joy, chill for a couple of hours and wack ’em onto a flat metal sheet on the BBQ. This allows you to cook at a high heat without the flames licking the little lovelies and burning them. Flatten the ball to approx. 1” thick or 3/4” better if you can and serve it how you like, why not try a brioche bun for a change.

Don’t forget, keep it simple and always shop local.

The Breakfast Club – London.

If you're a foodie, creative and love a sense of fun and theatre – it's time to have your brekkie here!

This is breakfast with a difference, just don't let it get cold while you sit and gawk at the masses of 80s memorabilia adorning the walls.

Born in 2005 The Breakfast Club now has 4 locations in London and is as popular as ever (don't be surprised to queue out the door for those breakfast burritos). Instantly recognisable by it's egg-yellow front, its a barrage of bright colours, 80s nik naks and junk from the word go (in a good way!).
Think the contents of your childhood bedroom teamed up with a mouthwatering indulgent menu and London's hip and hungover crowd.

Serving everything from traditional English breakfast (no skinny portions here), to pancakes and porridge – with smoothies to die for.

They also serve wraps, burgers, hefty burritos, pies and sharing platers for those who don’t make it out of bed in time for breakfast.

An inventive way with words, fairy lights, exposed brick wall, mismatched furniture and Sega Mega Drives – all makes for a fun and definitely charming experience. If you visit the Spitalfield's branch, don't forget to tell staff that you are 'Here to see the Mayor' - the special password to get you into the secret bar downstairs, entry through the Smeg fridge – of course. Shhh, I didn’t tell you!

FOOD REVOLUTION DAY – MAY 19TH

The food revolution scheme has been doing the rounds for a few years now, through the tireless efforts of TV chef Jamie Oliver’s mission to counter obesity in the US and his revolutionary work in the UK with our children’s school meals. The ambitious scheme has even got itself onto the calendar with Food Revolution Day, on 19th May.
I think the whole idea has really come on leaps and bounds. I loved the US based TV show, with Jamie going into schools educating kids through cooking classes and focus groups. A lot of kids had real heart-felt stories about their family members dying young with diabetes - one girl who had diabetes was only 13 years old!

From a marketing and design perspective though, I love the ‘clenched fist salute’, used quite frequently in design arenas for various uses. It’s a symbolic yet simple image of strength and defiance. The vibrant Japanese style background stripes are striking and instantly grab your attention. The stamped veg also add colour to an otherwise 2 colour style. It’s all been put together very well!

If there is one thing I hope for (other than world peace and the usual stuff) is that Jamie’s Food Revolution can go on for a little while longer yet, until the food culture is instilled in our own eating patterns and thus enhancing our lives and our food experiences – VIVA FRD!
